Your current favorite title font?Posted by PhillyFilmmaker
Impact is great for a boot in the face,
but outside of O'Brien, who wants that all the time? Ariel is a fallback, but has a bit too much "impact" if you know what i mean. Helvetica is a safer fallback position, but it's still only that. the other ones that come to mind (and which are therefore suspect) are: Geneva Lucida Verdana (what you are looking at right now) "Headline" is a font similar to, but different from, Impact. i have that on my system, but may have downloaded it. i don't think it's a Mac Native. i use FONTBOOK to preview typefaces. that's an app that comes with your mac. when you open it, go to the "preview" menu i think it is, and chose "custom" (Apple 3 will do the same thing) you can then type in the words you wish to see previewed. use the down arrows to step thru all the available fonts. it's Magic! DaFont is a site that has free fonts to download. all the best nick
No such thing as a "favorite font" in my book (I have over 4,000 fonts on my system). Every project is different and dictates the design including the font choice. My personal favorite has nothing to do with it. I suggest NOT using your "favorite font" for all your projects. Pretty boring.
When life gives you dilemmas...make dilemmanade. ![]()
For serious solid title - Avian Bold
For Serious Arty Post Modern - ITC Blair Medium Serious Sci-fi - ITC Blair Bold or Eurostile Extended (or Bold Extended) For street - A bite by Billy Argel Impact is seriously over-used for lots of genres and I am very guilty of that... I personally like Gill Sans as I've been using it a lot on BBC titles as its their current font. In different weights its extremely versatile and classy with a sense of youth to it. ![]() For instant answers to more than one hundred common FCP questions, check out the LAFCPUG FAQ Wiki here : [www.lafcpug.org]
Oh and I'm with Joey on that front - its horses for courses - choose the right font for the project not your fav. ![]() For instant answers to more than one hundred common FCP questions, check out the LAFCPUG FAQ Wiki here : [www.lafcpug.org]
I always use Lucida Grande for offlines.. It's faster than choosing fonts.. For the slates, I have used Baskerville for quite a few years.

[As for me personally? Zapf Chancery, all caps. Nothin' classier.]

I always thought Wingdings was quite cool, but i never managed to convince a producer to use it in a project. I tried Braille once, and we had problems with that font when we ported it over to FCP 5.

Precisely...every project deserves its own consideration. A little personality goes a long way. Let's not forget that many designs can take more than one font in combination, and in various sizes. For temp cards, I still find Impact hard to beat. It looks more "considered" than just Lucida Grande. I hate it when people just use the default Lucida Grande for temp titles -- it looks extremely sloppy, amateurish even, and the default tracking looks far too spaced out to my eye, even for temp cards. Impact has the added benefit of being very fat and thick even when it's small, hard to beat for clarity. ![]() www.derekmok.com
