Picking lenses for camera

Hello,

I have a chance to use the Canon 7D for a project and was looking for info on how cinematographers choose lenses for their projects? The setting is going to be indoors (e.g. basement room type setting) and a few establishing shots outside.

That's the basics of it. Let me know if I need to provide more info.

Hire a DP, my friend. You're asking us to recommend choices when we don't know your script, your actors, your location, your stylistic choices, your visual inspirations, your colour palette, your production design, your tone...

Here's the beauty of it.

I'm one of the DP's. And I have a chance to learn from this project bc everyone involved has a role and we're all learning like say it was in a classroom or something.
And in these grand ol' economic times I'm not spending any $$$.
Even better, it's not like those 48/72 jobbers where everything has to be done fast like a chickenhead.

Visually, I'm thinking of The Wire. The dialogue will drive the story. That's kind of where I'm starting from. The characters are 20-30 somethings. I don't want to get into any heavy artsy camera movements. There's no special effects.

Free on the job training I want to make the most out of.

I'm gonna move this to the cafe, cause it's really not Show and Tell material.

Oh wait. I'm not modding in here. This should be in the Cafe though, for more hits from people who may have an opinion.

Hello!

FYI please move this discussion to the appropriate forum if need be.
Thanks!!

So here's what we did.
We used 2 Canon 7D's with a shoulder mount.
We used 3 lenses: 35mm, 50mm and 24-70mm L lenses.

We shot 2.5 days. The actors were great. When the final product is finished hopefully it'll be something enjoyable.

It was great just doing the camera as opposed to being responsible for everything from script to editing/audio etc.
