Dif files, MPEG Muxed and Final cut Pro

Dif files, MPEG Muxed and Final cut Pro

We've been given a bunch of MPEG files and expect to receive .dif files to edit in Final Cut

1 - The MPEG's won't work directly in Final Cut as the audio is Muxed (at least I think that's it - it plays fine in Quicktime Player but brought into final cut only imports video)

My solution is to convert it all to prores - that works fine -- is there a better way?

2 - Dif files - hadn't heard of them but a web search says it has something to do with putting DV on a DVCPRO server -- any idea how I take those files and make them editable in Final Cut?

Thanks for your advice! Andy Field

Converting to ProRes via MPEG STREAMCLIP is the preferred method. And it is the better way.

Never heard of .dif files. No clue there.

That little widget's in every editor's toolbox. Heaven help us if they ever stop distributing it.

According this page:

This extension is used on Windows. These files are normal DV files, just change the extension to '.mov' (or '.dv' depending content)
