how to create filter templates?Posted by Anonymous User
i have a lot of clips coming up for the time being that will want, pretty much,
the same basic filter pack: invert, 3 way color corrector, sharpen. what's a good way to collect all of these so i can just drop them together as a group onto a clip as a preset? tried creating a piece of slug with them but, unless i kept it in the timeline, i couldn't get it to retain the filters when i dragged it to the browser. thanks, BabaG

Rename it to whatever makes sense. Drag the filters from whatever clip has them, and drop them into the bin. That bin is now a "filter pack". This part's important: Single-click twice on each filter within the pack and add a number ("01", "02" ![]() Once that's done, that whole bin can be dragged and dropped onto the Effects tab of any clip, or you can select any number of clips in the timeline and drag and drop the whole filter pack onto the group. Be careful, though -- this method is additive. For example, if you already have Color Corrector on a clip, dragging a filter pack on will add to pre-existing filters, not replace them. And if you make a mistake and drop the pack twice onto a clip, that clip will have the effects doubled. > tried creating a piece of slug with them but, unless i > kept it in the timeline, i couldn't get it to retain the filters when i dragged it > to the browser. That's always worked when I did it. But I always used a Title object or a Color Matte, never a Slug. A Slug has many, many more limitations than title objects -- such as length. The only advantage to a Slug is that it can be used on audio tracks. ![]() www.derekmok.com

> save to use over Yes, you can filter-pack transitions as well. But, you can't filter-pack a clip with transitions on it -- the elements will break themselves apart into pieces -- the clip will be one entry, the transition another. If you really want a clip "transition template", an "Effects storehouse" timeline (Sequence) will work better in this case. I use a combination of filter packs, Favorites and Sequences to store my effects presets. ![]() www.derekmok.com

Not true. If you change the duration to something ridiculously long before adjusting the length, you can drag it on forever. ![]() www.strypesinpost.com
And if you need a slug that's exactly the same length as your sequence, say for a multiple TC burn-in or watermark, option drag from the duration window of the canvas to the duration window of your viewer with slug loaded and voila!
Option dragging from the 5 TC windows that are visible in the 3 main windows is a handy way to avoid too much Command-C, Command-V or just typing TC from other visible fields. IT works from some bin columns as well. Experiment. ak Sleeplings, AWAKE! ![]()

> Not true. If you change the duration to something ridiculously long before adjusting the length There may have been a point in time when a Slug had a limit even if you entered a new number in the length window. Perhaps that's changed. But a blank Title has an alpha channel and automatically becomes transparent when you place it on a clip. Can't do that with a Slug. And a Color Matte can be any colour you want; a Slug can't. The only thing I ever use it for is making notes in the audio part of the timeline. For example, to denote uncleared music, or to label audio tracks. ![]() www.derekmok.com

Lol. Actually, the point of the slug a long time ago, was audio, visual black. Eventually, it has evolved for notes, burnt in letterboxes, beat markers for music tracks, etc. ![]() www.strypesinpost.com
For 'filter packs' I always use a text generator which contains the pasted attributes of a filter selection of a clip. This goes have the advantage that you can make some small notes on 'how, why ...' which are immediately visible in the viewer.
In any case I would recommend to save the 'filter pack' as XML. This way it can be used with other projects and other machines. Andreas
