Truncated RT Popup

Went to change RT from safe to unlimited and all the options went missing -

Safe RT
Unlimited RT
Video Quality
Frame Rate

all missing

only displays Play Base Layer and Record settings - nothing changed in render control or playback control - even trashed prefs - and the menu items are still missing.

Create new sequence - I get the full menu

Add clip to sequence, say NO to sequence autoconform dialog - I get the full menu

New sequence, add clip, say YES to autoconform - I get the mini-menu and no matter which settings I change - I can't get the full menu back

When I take the native XDCAM fooatge into the timeline - and auto conform - this doesn;t happen

Just looked at the last few projects to see when this was happening without my knowledge and it only seems to be happening with some pro res clips I used to autoconform the sequence with.

like:

TRANSCODED FTG: 29.97 fps, Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), 640 x 480, Millions

ISHOWU SCREEN CAPTURE : 24 fps, Apple ProRes 422, 1024 x 768, Millions

TRANSCODED FTG: 23.98 fps, Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy), 640 x 360, Millions

but it didn't happen when I autoconformed using the following:

TRANSCODED FTG: 23.98 fps, Apple ProRes 422 (LT), 720 x 480 (640 x 480), Millions

I'd love to know what's triggering this so I can change my workflow.

Thanks

For unlimited RT mode to work, you need to edit in a supported video format and codec (Eg. ProRes 720x576@25fps, 720x480@29.97, etc..).

You can't create your own frame size and get the FCP RT extreme engine to recognize it.

What Strypes said. More specifically:

TRANSCODED FTG: 29.97 fps, Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), 640 x 480, Millions

Not a real-time format.

That's a supported real-time format.

Final Cut will do its best to accommodate you if you're doing something weird. But Unlimited RT won't even try to work with a non-standard format. You can still work in that format, you just have to render everything like you do when you're doing safe RT.

Yup. The thing that really threw me was that RT wasn't working on any of my NTSC (4:3) sequences (640x480). I didn't know that was not supported.

NTSC is not 640x480. NTSC DV is 720x480; NTSC D1 is 720x486.

If you create a new sequence and open sequence settings - under frame size, aspect ratio -there is an option that reads NTSC (4:3)

if you select it - Final Cut loads the dimensions 640 x 480 in the width and height fields

Look at it again. DV NTSC is 3:2 as is D1 NTSC. There is really no such digital video standard that's NTSC 4:3. That's a computer format using square pixels.

All the best,

Tom

No no no no. Go to "load sequence preset". Select one from there. Don't mix and match frame rates with frame sizes. Some are supported by the RT engine, some are not. Square pixels in SD are not.
