Flip HdPosted by Mcaffrey15
I have a client who occasionally sends me some stuff that was captured on one of those Mino Flip HD cams. Because it shoots in a compressed MPG format, you'll need to drop all the files into Compressor and convert them to either H.264 or ProRes depending on your project.
You can drop the Mino files directly into FCP, but because they're compressed you will need to render both audio and video with every move you make. Converting the clips first will make life much easier.
DVCPro50? Why would you use an ancient SD codec for an HD format?
ProRes is a favoured format for conversion from many different formats to one unified editing format for editing. But you haven't told us what format the rest of your footage is in. That will determine which format you should convert to. Mcaffrey15, please use some punctuation when you post. ![]() www.derekmok.com

What...? 120x720? Is that even possible? If the number is correct, then whoever had shot this stuff had set the frame size to something absurdly small and your final product will look like garbage. Even at 720x480 DVD frame size, you'll have to blow your footage up several times. Whoever was using the Flip camera had no idea what s/he was doing. ![]() www.derekmok.com

PLEASE type slower and communicate clearly. Your posting style will just have us wasting our time chasing ghosts. The question now is whether you or your client want to edit in HD or SD. If you want an HD master, then you should convert the footage to ProRes or DVCPro HD, retaining the 1280x720 frame size. If not, then you should be working with a high-quality SD codec such as Uncompressed 8- or 10-bit, and convert the footage to 720x480 or 720x486, anamorphic 16:9. ![]() www.derekmok.com
