click on the audio track

do an option-L keyboard cmd

click off of the audio track

click on the fat lined track

hit cmd-X

click the other track

hold option & shift and drag the track to the place where the deleted track was

double click the track and load into the viewer click the other tab with the audio description and lower the track to -2

drag a marque over the 2 audio tracks in the TL(timeline) so that they are both selected ( you can also shift select each)

hit option-L to relink the tracks

DONE

Effectively it's still a mono track, so duplicating it doesn't do anything. What you do is...

1. Select the clips, hit option L to unlink the tracks.

2. Select the clip you don't want and delete it.

3. Load the clip in the viewer by double clicking on it, then set pan to 0.

3. Load the clip in the viewer by double clicking on it, then set pan to 0.

faster than that:
select the clips in the timeline, control + . (Full-stop)

in a nutshell:
control + , = pan left
control + = centre
control + / = pan right

these work on groups of clips, too so can be very handy

if you dont want a ono mix, them maybe go back to adobe and see what went wrong.

Final Cut Pro is not a music software. It doesn't have a click track. You probably have unrendered audio, which will play back as loud rhythmic beeps. Either do a Render All (OPTION-R), or Audio Mixdown (OPTION-APPLE-R).

Thanks, I created the audio in Soundtrack Pro and mixed 6 tracks, but it seems, unlike with Protools, that the export as a 24 minute stereo mix to an aif file yielded an enormous 1.6G file with 2 tracks of active audio and 4 with nothing. What explains that?

Just up your User Preferences in FCP for Real-time Audio Mixing to 99 Quality to High.

The default settings are for G3 PPC computers waaaaaay back in 1999 not the powerhouses of computing we use today.

>2 tracks of active audio and 4 with nothing.

Go to sequence settings, set audio outputs to 6 tracks. Then in the left column in the timeline, right click and assign the audio tracks to the output busses.
