m2v1 files

Hello Forum,

I'm trying to edit with .mov files that were originally shot on a Canon FS300 camcorder, then captured on a new MacBook Pro using iMovie. The .mov files are m2v1 codec. They play fine on the new MacBook Pro using QT v10.0. However, on my computer:
G5, Dual 1.8, QT v7.6, FCP 6.0
the clips have audio but no video, only a black screen.
Is it just a qt version issue? I read on another forum that m2v1 files are not edit-compatible because of the frame structure.
Should I convert them to another format on the MacBook that I can edit with on my computer's FCP 6.0?

Yes. Convert them with Mpeg Streamclip.
