Compressor Quirks?Posted by Marcus2
Hi Y'all,
I'm getting a strange thing happening when I convert to MPEG-2 in Compressor.. It's a large GREEN Band right across the middle of my picture. I have tried to trash the preferences, to no avail... Please help? Mac OSX 10.6.4 | 2 X 2.6 6-Cores | 8Gb RAM | FCS 2.... Thanks Marcus T iCreate! digital|post 12 Core Mac Pro, Snow Leopard, FCP 7.0.3, 8Gb Memory.
Hmm... I know that Snow Leopard does a pretty strange thing to your Mpeg2 component. The page at Mpeg Streamclip had a section on it:

SAme here
From the info I gathered, it does only happen when the "Frame Controls" tab is on. It also only happens since I upgraded to 10.6.6 It seems Apple Support is not interested in addressing this issue. I have only read about people that got NO answers from the Apple support team... In my case the Green horizontal stripes show up: when downsizing and des-interlacing using "Frame Controls" going from HDV to mpg2 SDPAL When i do the same (frame controls ON) from HDV to H264, I get no Green band. So in my case it seems clearly linked to using Frame Controls on an MPEG file. That's all I got

It may be dependent on your system configuration. In order to troubleshoot this and objectively replicate the issue, please consider reporting all of the details of your FCP setup, the footage, export settings, Compressor settings, system updates and software versions, etc. Even better, provide this info along with a set of sample clips (before and after the Compressor run), so that others may try to confirm this behavior. If the behavior can be repeatably reproduced by many different people, then it would indicate a widespread issue, rather than an isolated/rare occurrence. I believe it's unfair to say that Apple isn't interested in addressing issues as they arise (and they do, from time-to-time). But, to assume just because a few people are having an issue that it is necessarily due to Apple is a little bit naive... In other words, give us some info and sample clips, so that you can help us to help you... -Dave
