How do I transfer plug-ins from my old G5Posted by Douglas Villalba
I just got a new Mac Pro 8 core and I want to use my old plug-ins.
Is there an easy copy paste way? Thanks God Bless, Douglas Villalba director/cinematographer/editor Miami, Florida [www.DouglasVillalba.info] [www.youtube.com] [vimeo.com]
Fx-Script plugins are easy to transfer. Simple copy the plugins from this folder to the new computer:
Macintosh HD / Library / Application Support / Final Cut Pro System Support / Plugins / It is a little more work with FxPlug plugins. These should be installed with the original installer.

Only if they were installed with an installer in the first place. Most of the ones I've come across are just zipped bundles. You can copy them from ~/Library/Plug-Ins/FxPlug and /Library/Plug-Ins/FxPlug. There shouldn't be a problem transferring FxPlugs from PPC to Intel as long as they are compiled as Universal Binaries. FxScripts don't have this problem. My software: Pro Maintenance Tools - Tools to keep Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Pro X, Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere Pro running smoothly and fix problems when they arise Pro Media Tools - Edit QuickTime chapters and metadata, detect gamma shifts, edit markers, watch renders and more More tools...

My QC Integration FX package however and NI's FxFactory for example need to be installed with the installer. Both packages also install a bunch of other things. > There shouldn't be a problem transferring FxPlugs > from PPC to Intel as long as they are compiled as > Universal Binaries. FxScripts don't have this problem. From all the FX-Script plugins that I know (and I think I know all of 'em on the market), there are no plugins out there that have any PPC/Intel upgrade problem. Systematically there should also be no problem because FX-Script plugins are scripts and do not include any compiled code.
Thank you all for your answer. I was able to copy most of plug ins and the other had to be installed as you guys had said.

I am not that mush into effects so what little plug ins I used are just that without installer. I just had to re install dvmatte pro. That I use a lot.
I tell you the things you do when you have no idea how mush better are new 8 core. Now I am able to use dvmatte on Motion on the fly. No more waiting to see results of any changes.
