I have a whole set of music files that are currently .wav. What can I convert them to so I can bring them into FCP without having to render in my timeline?

If they are 16bit or 24bit wave files @ 44.1 or 48kHz then you shouldn't have to render - although some people recommend you convert to 48kHz.
