can't open mov file?? Help!

I copied mov files from a client's HD. He had it shot by someone else who he has stopped working with.
most of the files I can see and use. but one I can't. I get the following
"the movie is not in a format that quicktime player understands". and that I may need additional software to open>
which software would that be.

I opened the info and it just tells me last time it was opened. but its a mov file.
on the clips that do open it tells me the dimensions, codecs bit rate ect
but the one I can't open doesn't?

Mitch,

You may try opening that file in VLC or MPEG Streamclip and use their "get info" features to see what kind of video and audio is inside that file.

Or, you could try using MediaInfo Mac or VideoSpec (free apps) to "get info" on the troublesome .mov file.

The file may also be damaged, in which case you could try to use the QT Repair utility.
