F9, F10, F11, F12 Not working on FCP 7.0.3

Hi,

I don't seemed to get my shortcuts keys to work.

I have already tried:

1. Checked with FCP FAQ Wiki - see step 2
2. Disabled Expose & Expose Shortcuts
3. Trash FCP Prefs and with Preference Manager

I have a fresh new installation of FCP 7.0.3 on a MacPro 6 Cores running OS 10.6.4.

Your thoughts will be much appreciated.

System Preferencs>Keyboard. Check in F keys for use with applications.

All the best,

Tom

"No applications showing with F keys as enabled.."

What does that mean? What are you expecting to see, where?

Did you try trashing your prefs after you set the F keys? Reboot? If it's not working you have a system problem outside of FCP.

All the best,

Tom

Andy's screen shot appears to be from a laptop; heavensvideo says he has a Mac Pro which wouldn't have a Fn key anyway. If it really is a Mac Pro and not a laptop, I'd try another keyboard.

Mac Pro Keyboard Fn key is above Delete

The F key function that Andy showed has nothing to do with laptops or desktop keyboards or the Fn key directly. The F key checkbox MUST be on to make the F keys function in applications.

All the best,

Tom

I have one of the early Mac Pros (2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon) and neither the key nor the check box exists on my system. With a full size keyboard, I don't see why you would need multi-function keys anyway.

Be that as it may, I'm glad heavenvideo got his problem solved.

Ah yes - I totally forgot that I updated the keyboard on my 2008 MacPro to the low-profile one as soon as they came out! I much prefer them - almost no RSI. And yes the 'fn' key.

I might be out of luck on this one but maybe someone knows a solution.

I'm on a Logitech wireless keyboard that I use for both my mac and pc.

I'm trying to get F9 and F10 to work as shortcuts for insert and overwrite edits. The buttons do work but instead on performing those edits they act as the buttons to shrink all FCP windows so you can see the desktop and every window open.

When i go to System Preferencs>Keyboard. There's no "F keys for use with applications"

When I try change keyboard type it does nothing. My only option might be to reroute those shortcuts to other buttons in FCP?

This is such a well-known problem I'm surprised you're having it ;-).
It's in the FAQ. You've fallen victim to the default keys that support Exposé, and they are easily reassigned to some other key combo (or ignored completely). Then you'll have your FCP key combos back.
