Strange codec error message

MacPro
6 TB disk space
FCP 6.5
OS X 10.6.7

I copied a lengthy film project to another Sequence, then placed a Photoshop template of our logo in Video track 8 over the entire project. When I render the project, the render box indicates the render time, then about 10% renders before I get the following box:

"Codec not found. You may be using a compression without corresponding hardware card"

I can close the box and render the film bits at a time, but any idea what this is all about?
Thanks,
Stan

What is the size of the logo?

Follow-up:
Here is background. I have an 82-minute film project on FCP 6.5, all rendered perfectly, plays, perfectly, ready to go. I duplicated it in another sequence and placed a Photoshop template over the entire movie to give it a 35mm look (initially I thought it was a logo created in Photoshop, which explains my earlier posting. It was, in fact, a black stripe upper and lower). When I went to render the film, half the film rendered fine until I received the "Codec not found..." error, and I cannot render any further. Internet chat suggestions were many: a bad Preference Folder, must add DvX, still images too large, etc. If my original project plays perfect, why can't I render a duplicate with a template?

Firstly, the PS image should not be too large (eg. over 4000 pixels). In fact, try to keep it to the size you need. Secondly, make sure that it is 8 bit RGB, not CMYK. Alternatively, you can save it as a tiff or tga file. If it still doesn't work, you may want to go to sequence settings and switch to render in 8 bits.

None of the still images is CMYK; they are all RGB and I keep them at 200 dpi, which has always worked well in the past. Also, the sequence setting is already at 8-bit. So, I'm still stuck with the problem. I tried nesting and laying the template over the nested project (suggested by the Apple "Genius" specialist), but I still get this error message. Most of the film has rendered, but there are many tiny red spots, indicating there are a bunch of areas where it is not rendering. When I go to any of those spots, they are normal video clips, not still images. Totally confused here!!!

Why not export a movie without the file in one chunk, then reimport and stick it on top of that?

I've never been fond personally of doing text or logos or even my widescreen mattes/crops etc on top of my real sequences for exactly this reason. There always tends to be something going on with it. I know it's an extra step, but it should only cost maybe an extra 20 or so minutes tops in render/export time and that is going to a self contained file.

If you mean making a QT of the film, then digitizing it in a single clip, then placing the template over it, then rendering ... I'll try that. Still scratching my head though about the error message, but if I can solve the problem I guess I can leave the isssue on the cutting room floor.

Bit depth in PS should be 8 bits per channel. What is the frame size of the image? Dpi is irrelevant for video.
