OT MacBook Updates

Just a quick question before I pay $$$$$ for apple help. My macbook (about 3 years old) won't download that latest updates for my software. Keep saying they are available, I select to download them, I agree to the terms, Downloading begins, the macbook restarts, but when I run software updates again the software that I supposedly updated is still popping up! What do I do?

I know this isn't an FCP question but would appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you everyone

OS updates or other software updates? Apple or third party? Adobe? Microsoft?

Have you tried downloading the updates as a separate self contained file and running the update from there?

Sorry, its Software updates. Specifically...

Compressor Update 2.0.1
Apple Qmaster Update 2.0.1
MacBook EFI Firmware Update 1.2

How do you downloading the updates as a separate self contained file?

go to the Apple menu , top left of your screen,
run software update.

when it comes back with a list of updates,
downloading only is an option in the one of the menus (cant remember which one, sorry)

That option is gone in my version of Snow Leopard.
It's now "Go To Apple Download site" or something similar to that. That takes you to the Apple support page for the particular update. PITA if you're upgrading a bunch of things.

I did downloading only and an error message came up "None of the checked updates could be saved. sorry, an unexpected error occurred." then on new software list there are red caution signs next to it!
