I know that you should wait to see what happens to other users before you update, but I get so many crashes that I don't think it could get worst.

I installed Pro Kit 7 and it completely disabled by Blackmagic Extreme HD.

Back to ProApps v.5.0 and/or 5.1 for me.

I'm on FCP 6.0.6 and Snow Leopard 10.6.7. on a Mac 8 Core 2x3gGHz.

I also tried downloading Blackmagic driver 7.2.1 which the B/M guy said he thought "might" work, but that didn't help. So am back to using B/M driver 6.8.8.

Now I'm hoping that FCPX will be compatible with my Blackmagic card.

Exciting, isn't it?

Well, no. It's annoying.

Best

I wonder if the issue you're experiencing is due to the fact that you are running an older version of FCS with the newest OS. For example, if you were still running Leopard (10.5.x) with your version of FCP, there may not be a problem.

If you are going to run the latest OS version, which came out after the last FCS 3 (2009) release, I wouldn't run an older version of FCP/FCS. It probably works, but when updates are made to ProKit, for example, I doubt that they are tested much, if at all, on older FCP versions. It's always good to stay on the most current FCS/FCP version if you're running the latest version of OS X.

There is no reason why you shouldn't be running FCS 3 (2009) / FCP 7.x.x.

Besides, since FCP X may not support 3rd party I/O cards and plugins out-of-the-gate, you may want to get FCS 3 (2009) anyway... (pure conjecture about FCP X)...

P.S. - It looks like BMD consolidated their drivers and have released a new version:
Blackmagic_Desktop_Video_Macintosh_8.0.1

P.P.S. - My totally arbitrary "codename" for FCP X is iFCP...

I have one drive running Snow Leopard and another running plain Leopard. I didn't have any need for FCS 3 which turns out to have been a good non-investment. I keep Ye Olde Leopard on a 2nd boot drive because my CHV "Key Pro" doesn't like the combination of my 8 core and Snow Leopard. Christoph says it's a bug in Snow Leopard and I tend to believe him.

I've been running ProKit 5.1 because ProKit 6 and up gave me (and others) endless crashes - see the sticky above. I was one of many victims.

Frankly, I'm amazed that anything runs at all, given all the different hardware and software setups out there.

No doubt FCPX will demand that I buy a completely new computer, house, car and wardrobe.

This is for the newbies who might catch this thread:
Wait a week or 2 before you upgrade. Follow forums and see if the upgrade breaks anything. It usually does, so don't be the first, be the last to upgrade.

7.0 didn't change anything for me either. I keep on crashing constantly as it did before. After my first daily crash I remember to save that is all.
Thank G od that at least with a Mac, re start is really fast.

The problem is: if everybody would follow this advice strictly, nobody will ever update and one never knows what will happen cool smiley

Is the Black Magic card and settings the only negative thing that has occurred with this download? Personally, I am not using BM but I am still wary. I didn't have any problems with the 6.0 download myself but am holding back on this one.

It's the only problem I have had myself.

I have a BM HD Extreme, the first version. That may be the problem.

Me too.

I hope it will work with FCPX.
