Sony V1U terminates when plugging into External HD using Firewire 800Posted by johnnykai
I switched from Firewire 400 to Firewire 800 when uploading from the Sony V1U. The moment I do the external HD is terminated and no longer visible on the desktop. "has not been properly disconnected" keeps popping up.
Is the Sony V1U only compatible with Firewire 400? What are the best setting in FCP to use in the "Easy Setup" and the System Setup options when using the Sony V1U to upload in HDV? I previously have been uploading in NTSC. I would like to upload in HDV.
No need for hub. Use IO menu (opposing arrows) on V1u to set it for HDV out, not downconvert. Change that before connecting to Mac. Set FC for Sony HDV capture. Might need to Quit and Open FC after connection. It can be finicky. I prefer to NOT chain Firewire. Connect external HD and camera to iMac ports.

Another thing I've heard is never power up or down a firewire device whilst connected to the firewire connection.
As a safety precaution I always make sure the Sony XDCAM 350 is in the power up state prior to inserting the Firewire. And after ejecting the disc from XDCAM transfer I make sure the camera is still on when disconnecting the firewire. phil_cramer Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > No need for hub. I've been told the exact opposite. When I had to send an HV-20 back to Sony to get the Firewire port repaired, they said that the camera should always been powered off before plugging in the device because if the wrong contacts on the plug and port touch inadvertently, you can burn out the port.
Here's what's happening - everytime I plug the Sony V1U to an external HD it terminates the external HD. Something about the Sony V1U is creating a termination action as soon as you connect the Firewire 800 to an external HD.
Is anyone out there experiencing this problem with the new iMacs?
