The clip that wasn;t there (?)

Cutting a 1081 show in FCP 7 - a file that is part of the project but no longer present in the timeline CONTINUES TO DISPLAY in the canvas.

This actual clip appears normally (as online) in the browser, but it's ghost appearance says it is offline.

this is a section where there is only one layer - no composite, no nesting in that section (there is a nest earlier that contains the mystery clip) - if you open that section of the clip in the viewer, there is no false composite - but in the timeline it overlays this ghost layer.

There's two of working on this show - and we both looked - there is no other clip present, neither video above nor audio below.

Anybody seen this before?

update: tried removing the nest - ghost clip still there

this sort of thing used to pop up every now & then.
best thing is to copy your timeline into a new sequence.

or it could be an incorrect render file is attached to that clip.
maybe making the clip invisible and visible again will fix it.
