Untitled-99Posted by harry323
I have had a whole lot of media files dumped on me that are named "Untitled - xxx". There are many repeats - where more than one file has the same ID.
I want to renumber them starting at 0001. No name. Just new numbers. Is there any way to do this automatically? I really really don't want to do it by hand. Suggestions appreciated. Best Harry.
Harry, do you need to keep the files on-line in FCP?
are they already cut into a sequence, or organised in any way in FCP? do they need to keep their name for any other reason? like use in another project? if not, then you can use ay number of free, or cheap re-naming apps that work in the finder, then bring the files into FCP. i use R-Name (donation ware) it's getting almost impossible to find it these days, so i'll mail it to you. i also use the more advanced "A Better Finder Rename" but i don't think you'd need that for what you have to do. nick

select all files, then right-click More>Automator>Create Workflow.
automator opens in the first column, select 'Files & Folders. in the second column, double-click Rename Finder Items in the box that comes up, select Make Sequential. you can probably figure out the rest. stefan -- macpro 2x3 ghz dual core intel, 10.6.8, FCS 2
