Importing from a Canon Vixia.

I have a folder of material shot on a Canon Vixia. It's AVCHD. 33 gigs of it.

I can't seem to get anything to open and convert the media. Have tried MPEG Streamclip, FCPX and FCP 6.0.6. Have also tried Canon's EOS Utility. In the camera's manual they also mention an application called IMAGEMAKER 3SE, but the supplied disks are for PC and I'm on a Mac.

There are several folders which came with it. The most promising ones are called "CLIPINF" and "STREAM". There are also three files camed "INDEX.BDM", "MOVIEOBJ.BDM and, in the PLAYLIST folder there is one called "00000.MPL"

Can anyone help me open these files into something I can see and hear?

Thank you,

Harry.

Did you Google?

[support.apple.com]

The E1 plugin is just for DSLRs.

Log and Transfer should be able to mount the volume containing each memory card's data, provided you didn't mess with the file structure. I don't even think it needs a plugin, but don't quote me on that.

If all else fails, use ClipWrap or Voltaic.

Derek,

Thank you so much for coming, once again, to my rescue - and so promptly.

You are quite right - it imports through FCP Log and Transfer, although it seems to be taking a hell of a long time to do so.

Many thanks again,

Harry.

Take a look at an affordable utility like

CLIPWRAP

This $49.00 utility saved my butt when I needed to ingest from MTS clips captured to a Dull PC laptop.

And it simultaneously transcodes to anything QuickTime on your machine.

On a Xeon 2.26 8-core in 10.5.8, 14 GB of MTS 23.98 transcoded to ProRes (SQ) full raster HD in 1 hour ten minutes, 77GB of tasty edit codec. And it looks gorgeous.

Their $99.00 ScopeBox is pretty awesome too.

Full disclosure: I have received NFR's of both these tools for press purposes.
