external monitor for viewing FCP 7.0.3Posted by Dee
I was wondering if anyone can help...I'm trying to hook up an HD monitor to my Mac Pro for viewing my FCP timeline. I can get the monitor to mirror FCP but not to act as an output monitor. I went into audio/video settings in FCP and tried all the cinema display outputs but can't get any results.
Any one know what I should do next? Thanks for any help... Dee
Are you saying that you've hooked up the external HD monitor to your Mac Pro's graphics card (the second port)? And you're seeing a duplicate image of your FCP interface (essentially, your Macs main screen)?
If that's the case, I think you have mirroring turned on. Go to your System Preferences>Displays and uncheck the mirroring option. Your second monitor should now have it's own image on it (if it has the menu bar across the top, drag it back to your primary monitor inside the Display preferences). Then you should be able to set the 2nd monitor as your output in FCP. If I 've guessed wrong here then please write back with more specifics and I'll try to figure it out. I have the external monitor hooked into the back of my Mac into the mini display port. I get the mirror when I turn on mirroring but when I turn it off the external monitor just goes to
it's normal screen. I know the new monitor is talking to FCP I just can't get it to output the timeline or preview from FCP. Does that make sense? Dee
