Audio is FCP too large

Hi,

I just created audio voice over in FCP.

My file size is 485 mb. I usually bring it into itunes to make it an mp3, but is still a large file size.

Anything I can easily do to make the file size smaller?

Could I export it in a different way? It's just voice.

Thank you so much,
Elaine

40 minutes.
Thanks!

but what do you want to do with it?
one can only assume you may want to send it to someone, maybe FTP??
but do you want it to be usable quality, or is it just a guide?

not enough info!

but first thing i'd suggest is ensuring your mp3 conversion is set to make a mono file.

Or, if you didn't want to lose quality, break it into smaller chunks that can be reassembled on the other side. 40 minutes of anything is going to be hefty to move.

make it mono if it isn't already and make it a 64 KBPS

Hi,

Tunecore- has anyone used it? It's a site that distributes audios for sale.

Tunecore wants a wav file. I got a free converter and tuned the aiff from FCP into a wav file (using their specifications) and it was 765 mb. Isn't that too big?

Does Tunecore then compress it?

Many thanks,
Elaine

For 40 minutes? At 48kHz that sounds a bit high, but not grossly over. I have a bunch of audio AIFFs at full quality, 44.1kHz (their source was at that sample rate), 16-bit stereo, and they're about 65MB for seven minutes.

Why are you using a "converter" anyway? WAV export is right there in Final Cut Pro as well as QuickTime Player and iTunes.

Hi,

I have FCP 5.14. Where can I export as a .wav? I don't see it.

Here's what Tunecore requires:
"please make sure that your files are 16 bit (sample size), 44.1 kHz (sample rate) and 1411 kbps (bit rate) wav files."

So, how do I do that from FCP? I have a 40 minute audio book.

Thank you so much!

i don't have fcp open, but it's something like this:

file menu > export > using quicktime conversion

choose WAV from the format drop-down menu at the bottom of the export window.

Hmm. Don't see it.

Could it be that I have 5.14 version?

I believe sound in uncompressed wave is 10 meg per minute
So 40x 10m =400 megabytes
