serial number not recognized by FCP 7

I trashed my preferences and then launched FCP 7 today, or rather, tried to launch it. FCP7 asked me to type in my serial number, so I pulled out my Apple discs where it's printed and I typed it in. FCP says that serial number is invalid.

Some other places on the web say that many people seem to be having this problem. FCP asks for your serial number and then tells you it's invalid.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Usually trashing the system ID file and re-entering serial number solves problem

Sometimes folks enter a ZERO when they should enter a letter O, things like that. If you encounter an O with a diagonal line through it, it's a numeral, not a letter.

Caught me a couple times, I recall. Also, letter B can look like numeral 8.
