Log And Transfer Can't See Quicktimes

So sorry if this is a basic question all you pros... I'm not really an editor, more a director. I've just been handed a hard drive with over 600 Gigs of footage to view and select from. All the files are Quicktime movies. I have FCP 6 on a Mac Pro running Lion and the files are on a portable G Drive.

Problem is that when I launch Log & transfer and navigate to the media folders, all the Quicktimes are greyed out- can't access them. If I go to File>Import, they become accesible; but then I have to import the entire file in order to look at it.

Is this a simple setting adjustment somewhere? I would appreciate any guideance. Thanks.

You don't Log and Transfer if the footage is already in QuickTime movies, unless they are actually, say, H.264 files from a DSLR camera. But in your case, a more likely scenario is that they're already ingested. Watch them from the Browser.
