OSStatus error -12909

I keep receiveing this error OSStatus error -12909
it is a file that was sent to me via Yousendit.
it is a quicktime file with a .MP4 extension
I'm running OS 10.6.8
Any Ideas

You can't work with that in FCP. You need to transcode it to something else workable first, like ProRes.
