Wondering what would make wav files skip in FCP. Upon playing the back with Preview or QT Player they are perfect yet within my project they skip in the same way MP3's have a tendency too. Any thoughts??
OSX 10.6.8 Quad-Core 8GB of RAM
FCP 7.0.3

Transcode to 48khz 24 bits. The item level renders on occasion cause the music to skip.

Still skips after changing from 16 to 24 bits. It already was 48.
hmmmm - and it is random as to when it happens

Did you render? Also, you never mentioned what your audio settings are in Sequence Settings.

I mean your media. Your source audio media. Convert all your source audio media to 48kHz? Can you take a screen shot of the audio in your timeline?

ok - I'll take a shot of it - this is a crazy project where the media is from so many different sources - archival footage mixed with stuff shot recently - been a giant project trying to convert everything from stills and mpeg2 and H.264, DV etc etc in an effort to get this thing to play nice ...

that may be the problem right there. try to reduce the number of formats!

I have converted - all files to Apple ProRes and resized stills to RGB PNG's and so on.

Will 16 bit audio actually make it skip like that? Never been an issue before...

Not 16 bit, but rather 44.1kHz.

That has been my experience - mp3's - no good - and that is the exact effect I am getting. But everything is def in 48. There is some 16 bit mixed in with the 24 bit which I m replacing as I go.

The bit depth shouldn't cause any issues. Are there any item level renders?

Under timeline audio indicators, the bottom two pictures. Your audio should have no render bars on the clip itself if no effects are applied.

Another thing to do is to go to user preferences and set real time audio playback quality to high.

are you using an external audio interface? it might be set to a different sample rate.
