I would like to make safety copies of my old video8 tapes. My questions are:What is the best medium I could use for that (CD-Rs or transfer on mini-DV tapes). On Cd-R could I use some compression software?

<HTML>That's a good question and one I hope someone will give a definitive answer too, but my feelings are that the CD will last you the longest as Mini DV has a short life span which is why documentary film makers decry the use of DV to archive history. YOu can just capture your video 8 tapes using FCP and a media converter and drop the resulting QT file into Toast and burn your CD.
