Poor Performance working with HD

Hi Everyone,

I'm working on a large HD project and experiencing extremely long render times when I try to add any filters or effects to my timeline.

I have 10 GB of RAM (which is configured properly) and an ATI Radeon HD 3870 Graphics cards with 512 Vram.

I'm running OS 10.6.8
on Mac Pro - 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual Core Intel
FCS7
After Effects

My media is on an internal SATA drive and my apps on on my boot drive.

Let me know if you need any more information in order to advise me.

Thanks,

Shelley

Hi Shelleyrae, yeah you've missed out one of the important ones - what codec is your media. also what are your sequence settings. Let me guess are you cutting HDV by any chance?

Most of the footage I'm working with was shot on a Cannon XF300. I loaded it via FCP7 Log and Transfer. The sequence settings are HDTV 1080i 16:9, Compressor: Apple Pro Res 422. The other footage was shot on a Xacti which makes MP4 files. I converted that footage to Apple Pro Res 422 to match the other camera.

Hope this is enough info.

Thanks for your help.

P.S. The other editors I work with are using a PC with CS6 Premiere Pro and After Effects. They have no problems working with footage shot on the XF300 and Xacti. The rendering is quick and they don't have to convert the Xacti MP4 files.
