try to convert MXF files to .mov for use in FCP 7

Downloaded a media converter to no avail. client has large number of MXF files, these are video files perhaps shot on a Canon? Can you suggest a third party software that I can try even if it leaves a watermark? Hamburg Pro Media has a $350 plug in. Too expensive. And no trial version.

We are running a Mac Pro desktop, OS 10.7.4 3.33 GHz 6-core intel xeon, 8GB RAM

Its not a PRO app I don't think, but SMARTCONVERTER does a pretty cool job of converting to almost anything QT related...

One suggestion is to know exactly which camera your files came from. And if we know that, we can probably get a better, and perhaps free tool from the manufacturer to access those files.

And you should always archive the entire contents of the card, not copy just the mxf files, as some mxf formats are OP-Atom (eg. Panasonic P2), so the video is stored separately from the audio, and you'll end up with video with no audio, or vice versa.

Calibrated has a solution for native importing of MXF files. That is perhaps more economical than mxf4mac, which probably has the sleekest solution (non reference QT movies).

Premiere Pro should be able to import it without issues, if you also have PPro in your workstation.

Did you try LOG AND TRANSFER? MXF files can be from a Panasonic P2 camera, or Canon XF or C300 camera. You REALLY need to know what camera these were shot with if you want to import them.
