converting audio files to aiff

I am using FCP 7.0.3 and was told it is possible to automatically convert audio files to aiff by dropping them into a box on my desk top. Can this be done? From which program in the FCP suite do you create it?

Compressor can create a Droplet that will automatically convert an audio file to AIFF 49k.

...or open the original file in QT Pro (not QT 10) and export the AIFF (Command - E) and click "options" to set your rate.

Created a droplet from Compressor.

I set it up for AIFF 48:16, 48Hz, 16-bit AIFF stereo audio for a HDV project I'm doing in Apple Pro Res 422. That's what you meant by AIFF 49K, right?

I have a musician preparing some soundtrack music that will need to be converted. Please let me know if there's a better setting. Otherwise thanks for the great advice.

what is the format you are working with?
if your musician is supplying mp3s or aac files, then maybe they should just deliver a better format.
(unless these are temps being delivered over the internet)

if you are getting WAV files, they are fine to use in FCP.
