How to paste about 200 lower thirds from 29.97 SD into 25fps HD PAL version of our film, and stay in sync??Posted by Michael Singh
Help. We're on a European broadcast deadline. How to paste approx 200 lower third chyrons (interviewees' names, date stamps on archival footage etc) from our NTSC 29.97 sequence, into the European sequence of the film, which is at 25fps. The film runs 95 minutes. When you copy and paste all the above-mentioned chyron texts into the European sequence, they stretch perhaps 25% longer on the timeline. I.e., way out of sync.
This makes sense. Why should 29.97 fps text fit into a 25 fps timeline. But the question remains: what is the solution? (The 200 texts are spread across approx 20 tracks of video, organized by category such as "Interviewee ID" on V10, or "date stamps" on V15, or "Chapter titles" on V18, etc.) RUNNING: FCP 7.0.3. Mac OS X 10.6.8 2.8 GHz Quad Core Xeon 12GB RAM Many thanks for any pointers.
I'll say to export the supers as a separate layer and do a frame rate conversion in Compressor. I can't remember if Compressor preserves the alpha channel or if I did something else to it to make it work, but a frame rate mismatch with supers will look stuttery.

there might be some clever software solution.
maybe Andreas Kiel from Spherico filmtools would know. here's my clumsy manual approach. export the 29.97 version, or maybe you have an already put it in a copy of your 29.97 edit timeline check it's in sync. delete all the clips, but keep your lower thirds now, with the exported file selected, use the down arrow to set through your film, adding a marker at the start of each lower third, and extending the marker it to the end of the lower third (option `) copy that marked file into clip into browser and edit it into your 25fps version of the film. the clip should re-time itself and the markers should (hopefully) still indicate the lower thirds now copy paste your lower thirds and manually adjust to the markers. i'd turn off all other tracks so you are only snapping to markers. OR MEDIA MANAGER i wonder if media manager would work? make a copy of your sequence, and delete everything except the titles then media manage it, create offline (or recompress) and choose a 25fps sequences setting nick
I'm probably too late.
Easy way would be just copy all the lower thirds and paste them into a sequence with the new timing. -Andreas Some workflow tools for FCP [www.spherico.com] TitleExchange -- juggle titles within FCS, FCPX and many other apps. [www.spherico.com]
