Thunderbolt RAID for multicam 8/12-up Pegasus or GRAID or other?

Hello to all,

I have a multicam shoot coming up and need to purchase a RAID. I'll edit viewing 8-12 angles at a time. The Pegasus R6 6 TB w/Thunderbolt and the G-Tech 4 TB G-RAID/Thunderbolt have been suggested. Other than price is one superior to the other?

We are shooting on Sony F3s or Canon C300s.

Thanks so much,

Lisha

More drives usually mean a faster RAID. I would probably go for the Pegasus, as it's quite a robust RAID array. SSDs would be wicked fast, but they will be VERY expensive.

8-12 streams of ProRes 422, or HQ? Via Thunderbolt? Hmmm...unsure of that. TB is currenly only a 4x interace. You'd have better luck with Fibre or SAS. But if Thunderbolt is your only option...you might need to do an offline/online workflow with that many angles.

There's also the part that the machine won't be able to decode 8-12 streams of ProRes HD in real time, but you can drop the playback quality to medium or low.
