LACIE drive not workingPosted by tonytizoc
Lacie *is* trouble.
If it doesn't mount, run DiskWarrior and try to repair the directory. If that doesn't work, chances are you'll need to open the chassis, remove the drive, and find a new enclosure and try again. If not, then find a technician to run data recovery. Lacies are the worst drives possible. If you leave one lying around for longer than three months without checking it, you have at least a 30 per cent chance of losing whatever's on it, and that per centage goes up with every extra month. And that's with the drive lying dormant in a box. (This is actual experience, not guesswork.) www.derekmok.com
The drive is visible to the MAc I am using - meaning it does not mount. HOw can Disk Warrior see an unmounted External hard drive? Any referrals on a tech for data recovery.
I suspect I will have to take the drive out of the Lacie chasis and plug into another computer to transfer the files to another drive. Thanks tony
Before you spend the big bucks on data recovery, the last step right before that is to tear the drive mechanism out of the case and mount it in a SATA dock (aka a drive toaster). If it's just the power supply or bus circuit board that is fried (very common with LaCie drives) then the drive might still work.
You'll get your data off the drive at least. SATA docks are becoming more common, ask around your friends, someone might have one. ak Sleeplings, AWAKE!
