Multicam: playback issues

Multicam: playback issues

I have a brand new 2013 iMac 21", 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, 8Gb 1600 MHz DDR3

I work with Apple Prores 4444, 1920x1080 files.

My multiclips are only 2 clips but the playback in the time line and viewer is horrible... choppy and stops on occasion. Almost unusable.

For some reasons when I inserted my selection from the viewer to the TL and chose to change the TL to the clip's settings, I still have the green line for render... When I render, playback is fine.

Is this normal for an iMac with these specs or am I doing something wrong?

Thx

Sounds like your hard drive isn't fast enough.

what kind of drive should I use?
I've also been told that 4444 is way to big to be used in multiclips....

You can check whether hard drive speed is the problem by substituting a RAM disk. I use MakeRAMDisk for this. It can also be made in Terminal.

Which disk stores your render files? It is apparently fast enough.

I think your problem is in the green bar. Your footage might have some quirk outside the available system settings. To check this, export a QT file after rendering. Hopefully this file can be dropped into the time line without a green bar. Then compare your clip with that one in QT Edit.

Multicam with 2 angles doubles the bandwidth. Also FCP7 uses a 32 bit process to decode QT.

I don't know multicam/multiclip. What caused xavpil's green bar? Isn't each clip of the multiclip rendered separately? How does the rendered clip differ from the original clip (for which the sequence was set)?

4444 is too big.
recompress to a more edit-freindly format; ProRes or PRoresLT

you can get a green line with multiclips, as the system is carrying 2 streams.
if you set the viewer to only display one angle you lose the green line, and might just edge your system back into the playable zone.

ok, so 4444 is definitely the cause…
Unfortunately i didn't have time to export to proxy….
