Can anyone tell me how to unlink/ungroup stereo pairs on clips without putting them on a timeline?

Thanks

If you only have one track patched on the timeline, it will only allow the patched track to come in on the timeline, which is not an unlinking, but allows you to add video with only one track of stereo audio. Not sure if this is what you need it to do though.

What is it that you're trying to achieve?

can't be done, sorry

you need to put them all in a timeline, un-stereo,
delete the original browser clips, and copy the new dual mono clips back into the browser to make new master clips.

Thanks Jude. Just wondering if it could be done. Has only become an issue in recent years since all my imports are from cards now and log and transfer doesn't have an option to import two mono tracks.

Not true. Check the "Import Settings" tab under the playback window in Log and Transfer. However, since tapeless ingest was designed so that every clip has its own audio import setting, it is not convenient at all to change. It's faster to just import as stereo and break the link in the timeline, or to enter the logging information, and then scroll through the list of files again with the Import Settings up so you can click the link button on every clip.
