Can't import wav file....File Error: Unknown File .wav

Got the final sound mix files from the post sound team.

There 90 min long wav files and when I try to import any one of them into FCP7,
I get this error:

File Error: Unknown File .wav

Very similar to this post

The files were exported from Pro Tools with the following specs:

I tried opening the file in Adobe Audition and I get this error which might be the problem.

Non audio data in a .wav file? What could that be?

Can you open it in MPEG stream clip and re-export, or split so it's smaller and re-export?

This is a Dolby Surround file -- gotta watch out for your resave options so you don't end up mixing everything down (which I think MPEG Streamclip may do -- but I'd be happy to be corrected if I'm wrong). Might want to try using Soundtrack Pro or Pro Tools for the task. Or, get the mixer to export each track individually.

Oh, I missed the 5.1, sorry. What could non audio data be though that exceeds 100MB? Soundtrack Pro might be a good option. But then, if Audition wouldn't open it ...

I've tried all the programs below:

Final Cut Pro 7
Adobe Media Encoder
Soundtrack Pro
DVD Studio Pro
Adobe Encore
Adobe Audition

They all result in an error, or won't import the file.

After a long time troubleshooting, I read that .wav files have a 2-4gb limit
depending on the program, and walla this ended up being the issue. I had
the sound team, export that audio in reels and then they imported fine.

But what a unnecessary headache. First I had no idea about this limit and
neither did the sound team, is this common knowledge? They said they never
\encountered this issue before when delivering a full file.

Do most sound people deliver their final mix in reels? Because if anyone delivers
a final mix as one file, most feature projects would be over the 4GB limit. So I just
don't understand how more people are not running into this issue.

I do remember having to keep OMFs under 2GB. But I didn't know .wavs had a size limit. Are you sure it's not connected to a misformatted drive problem? That's a 2GB/4GB limit too.

The drive can definitely read more than 4Gb, it's formatted correctly.
I could play the original 4GB+ file in VLC and quicktime but it just wouldn't work
with any other program.

I just did a test within FCP7, I wanted to create a .wav larger than 4GB,
and see if it will import.

I exported a 90 minute project at 32/96 and it gave me a 4.03 GB file. This actually
imports into FCP7. However, I then tried 32/128 and 24/196, they actually result in an
error, file too large. So I guess there's some limit on .wav files in FCP7
somewhere between 4.03Gb - 4.4GB.

Related-- suppose I DO want to monitor true 5.1 on the desktop-- has anyone recommendations for sound cards, speakers, etc? Will these work for FCP7 and Avid 7?

Yeah, I'd be interested in a recommendation for a 5.1 speaker option for the Imac. I hope I don;t need a new sound card.
