FCP 10.2.1 track selection broken

Hi all,

I am in the middle of a project and suddenly lost the ablility to select anything other than VIDEO ONLY when I cut anything into my project. The track selection is stuck! I have trashed preferences, restarted, repaired disk permissions - all multiple times and nothing worked. In desperation, I upgraded to 10.2.1.....mid project....and the problem STILL persists. I even uninstalled FCP and did a fresh install. Does anyone have any idea what could be going on?

I am working on a MacBook Pro - Retina 2.7 GHz intel Core i7 with 16 GB of RAM.

maybe the problem lies in what you are trying to do.
or maybe there's some corruption in the sequence

make a new sequence, and see if that acts the same.
