Trouble with Image Mask link to a quicktime

I'm linking a quicktime that is a hi-con B&W to use as an alpha chanel. When I use Image mask with a still hi-con B&W, it works just fine, but when I replace the footage (in the little question mark box) with my QT, it just seems to work on the first frame of the QT only. The manual says I should be able to do both stills and QTs. Anyone have a clue as to why this might be happening? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You have to change the duration of your still "hi-con B&W Alpha Matte" to match the length of your QT.

FCP will not use movies - only the first frame as a shot well source - well known bug in 4.5. You will also note that shot wells in stored favorite effects don't always store either. I don't know what happens in 5.
