Howdy, smiling smiley

Is there a way to toggle between the multiple windows in FCP? (Besides the q key which only toggles between 2 window)?

Thanks smiling smiley

Hello, Dean smiling smiley

Thanks for your input smiling smiley

I was hoping for a one key solution like for example what the q key does.

Thanx smiling smiley

Thanx, Kevin smiling smiley

Maybe in the next upgrade perhaps smiling smiley along with selecting and toggling clips (not their edit points) in the Timeline without using the mouse and then sending the selected clip into the Viewer without using a mouse, only a key from the keyboard.

You could map a key to do it. Like the q key it wouldn't work in the browser of course.

All the best,

Tom
selecting and toggling clips (not their edit points) in the Timeline without using the mouse and then sending the selected clip into the Viewer without using a mouse

You can do that right now.

With the playhead on the clip, mark clip: X
Select the clip: OPT + A
Load the Clip into the Viewer: ENTER

There you go.

A total of four keys to do something that should be at least two key strokes quicker.

modifier keys aren't that hard to wrangle..
for me, Apple 1 is just as easy as 1.

anyway, to open a clip in the viewer, all you have to do is be parked on it, and hit Return.
is this new?
if you;ve got a few to choose from, auto-select can help.

to actually SELECT a clip with keystrokes,
1. get to the canvas, (Apple 2, or Q)
2. Apple A (this will select all clips at that point)

cool.

Half-baked once again. I don't mean you Nick, I mean the app. Yes, it's new and it works sort of. One track of video and it works. Multiple tracks not so lucky. Nothing to do with autoselect, just nothing happens.

The Canvas selection is a new one to me. Seems an odd workaround. Go to the Canvas to select a clip back in the timeline and then probably have to make the timeline active again to do what it is you want to do with the clip. What really bugs me is that there is absolutely no function to select a clip. Nothing in a menu and nothing assignable either. If you can do f and x you should be able to do selection, following the same autoselect rules.

All the best,

Tom

"Half-baked once again. I don't mean you Nick, I mean the app."

that's one reason i though it was new.. feels like it hasn't been thought trough completely yet.

"One track of video and it works. Multiple tracks not so lucky. Nothing to do with autoselect, just nothing happens."

hmm.. autoselect works for me on multiple tracks.
but you have to solo both the video AND the audio, which is a drag.
or solo the video and LOCK all audio, which is quicker, but not always what you want.

it could be improved by making the top visible clip the one that opens in the viewer if more than one is auto selected.
i can see where they're coming from with the thinking, though.
so many choices (visibility, autoselect, etc) make simple things hard sometimes.
how do you think it should work?

"The Canvas selection is a new one to me. Seems an odd workaround"

i wont disagree.. :-) i just found it by mistake

"Go to the Canvas to select a clip back in the timeline and then probably have to make the timeline active again to do what it is you want to do with the clip"

actually, i'm trying this now, and you don't have to go back to the timeline..
even with the canvas the active window, if i select a clip with Apple A from there, i can do key-board-ey things with it:
open properties, colour it, change it's comp mode with a custom key-comand,
even de-select.

weird that not even autoselect can help you with this function, though.
"Select All" really means ALL in this case.

cheers,
nick

incidentally, all these things work when you load a clip into the viewer, too.

so, in effect, hitting return DOES select the clip.

"hmm.. autoselect works for me on multiple tracks.
but you have to solo both the video AND the audio, which is a drag."

This isn't what I expected to happen. I expected it to follow the lowest autoselected track rule. Why it has to be the only autoselected track, other unwanted video and audio de-autoselected, I don't know. This seems to fly in the face of the general rules of behavior for the function. Autoselect continues to be an ever changing mystery to me.

All the best,

Tom
