I have been doing shoots lately for a client on 16:9 Betacam SP, and I was going to buy a monitor for external viewing.
Now my dilemma, I need a small portable monitor that will travel a bit and be placed in situations where you wouldn't slit your wrists if it went missing/got damaged. I have been using a small 4:3 34cm CRT but obviously the anamorphic is squashing the image. I would like to have whatever monitor I purchase double up as an external 16:9 PAL monitor for editing, but what can I buy that'd give me an accurate image (without spending a small fortune).
Small CRT widescreens - can't seem to find any.
17" LCD widesceen TV's - these are around and easy to find but what about the square vs rectanglar pixel thing? Ideal for the real time Betacam SP monitoring I guess but will the image be OK as a monitor for editing the other standard DV stuff? Is using the standard composite input (instead of the VGA input) giving me a good/true PAL monitor? or is it really just the same as monitoring using my computer monitor? ... what would you use/buy?
Thanks in advance.
