OT adobe upgrades...

any of you guys out there using adobe illustrator?

i just upgraded from illustrator 10 to the newest version CS2.

in the past, to upgrade all you needed was your new version disc (or download) and your old serial number. NOW when you upgrade (although you are given the option to simply enter your old SN) you HAVE TO have the older version INSTALLED for the upgraqde installer to work.

every time i entered the old serial number, the installer said that the number was invalid. i called adobe and they said everything checks out and that it should work.
after 4 phone calls i finally got a savvy fellow who told me this is thier new process to keep people from giving away their old software. SO, dont discard your old install disks, keep them safe and handy or you'll have to call adobe for an emergency unlock code.

i guess good for them to keep people from stealing software, but what a pain in the ass for we honest users...
