Running FCP 4.5 and 5.0 on the same system

Posted by steve Ellington
A friend of mine needs to upgrade to 5.0 for a new client, but he also needs to keep FCP 4.5 for some of his old clients. Is it possible to have both versions running on the same computer and if so, what steps need to be taken to do this cleanly?

Thanks

He would be best to run one version of OS X on one disk drive and another on a second drive.

By that, I mean, Tiger is the optimum version of OS X to run FCP 5 on while Panther 10.3.7 or 8 is the best to run FCP HD on. Trying to run both would require 10.3.9 and Quicktime 7.01 which might cause conflicts with 4.5-HD.

Other that that would be a crap shoot.
why would he NEED to stay on an old version for some clients? unless he is in mid project with them, he can update old projects with ease...

and if hes mid project he shouldnt even think about installing a new version anyway.

if he has time to format and dual partition his drive maybe he could do one volume for 4.5 and one for 5...

You need to rename FCP 4.5 something other than what its named. Like FCP HD rather than Final Cut Pro HD.
