1080i on FCP 4.0

I can configure FCP HD 4.0 to control the Sony HVR-A1U and can pick 1080i HD video for capture and the preview screen goes to 16:9, but there is no video to be seen on it when I roll the footage.

Am I missing something? Or does FCP HD 4.0 not really recognize 1080i?

Thanks.

as far as i know fcp 4.x does not do hdv at all (without 3rd party software intervention)

why are you still at 4.0 if 4.5 is a free upgrade???

you would need to upgrade to FCP 5 to nativly handle HDV

I have actually upgraded to 4.5. it was easier to just knock out 4.0 when I submitted. I felt a little foolish for having to ask this question in the 1st place.

My FCP 4 lists 1080i which, to a rube like me, is a bit misleading. Guess I'll have to upgrade to 5.

Thanks very much. -Bill

You can work with it - just not natively and not for capture. You can use 3rd party software like HDVxDV to make footage to work with, but it is pretty time consuming and working non natively with HDV is not fun.

Upgrading to 5 would be the cleanest and most stress free solution.
