Markers, second field text

Is there any way to search on the content of the second field of a marker?

You can never see the second field of the two interlaced fields, but you can see both.

Force the canvas to be 100% and drag the window until it's bigger than the video--that it has gray round the edges. When you freeze the picture, it will show you both fields and if you shrink the window, it will only show you one (the lower, I think).

I think Dave means the "comment" field of a marker rather than the 2nd field of a video frame. AFAIK FCP will do this fine, whereabouts aren't you seeing it happen? In the browser or in a timeline?

Sorry, yes, I meant the comment field of a marker.

I tried searching while in the browser, and came up empty on info that I knew I had put in. I also wondered, because you can see the first field, listed under a clip, but not the second.

Anyway, searching in the browser doesn't seem to do it. If it works for you, can you describe the process?

Oops. Sorry. I see everything as a video problem.

When my dishwasher breaks, I see it as a vido problem.

FWIW you can see a marker's comment field in the browser by showing the column "Master Column 1".

To be honest I checked this on FCP4.5 and it correctly found the correct marker both in the browser (it wasn't necessary to have the Master Comment 1 column visible) and in a clip on the timeline. I temporarily don't have a v5 system so there's always the possibility that the feature is broken in v5? Sorry I can't check until next week.

Thanks for the tip. I'll check it out. In my installation of v5 I don't seem to be able to search for the content of the second field of the marker. Being able to display it would be terrific.

OK I just tried this on a v5 system. Seems to work just the same as v4.5 - you do have to have the clip markers visible in the browser for the search to work and the search in the timeline only works forwards from the current playhead position.

Well, I'll try it some more, but so far, whether the Master Comment is visible or not, I can't search on the content of my folders. Maybe it's because I have the folders I'm working with in a separate window, not the actual Browser. [I thought those windows were still part of the Browser.]

Anyway, it seems clear to me that the short answer is to put searchable text in the first field, not the second.
