Has anyone encountered this - easy fix..but annoying in FCP 5
(this is under System 10.4.2 and Quicktime 7.0.1)

Render a nested sequence..

Then go and try to change something inside that nest.....requiring a re-render

Go back to main timeline where the nest appears - The main timeline still thinks everything's hunky dory....nothing's changed.

The only way to get the nest to reflect the new "internal nest" change - is to apply something - anything to that nest as a whole (blur the nest) Then the old render goes away and you get what you changed inside the nest)

It's a simple matter to just remove whatever filter you've added to the nest....and then re-render.

Any idea why this is...bug? Undocumented "feature?" Inquiring editors want to know.

Thanks Andy

that;s always been the case, i think, andy,
but that doesnt excuse it.

the simplest way to update the nest i know of is to make it invisible, and then visible again.
that's Control B, Control B.
or simpler, Control BB.

the bad thing about any of these methods is that the if you've got an effect on the nest, the whole nest now needs rendering again, not just the bit you've altered.

it sure isn't a "feature" as far as i;m concerned
it'd be a bug if it hadnt been around so long.
maybe it comes under the category of "Design Quirk"

cheers,
nick

Nick, thanks for the Control B tip....although I don't remember FCP doing this in version 4 or earlier....it seemed updates in Nests were always reflected in the main timeline as well. - Andy

render updates or editing updates?

actually right now i'm trying to replicate what you;re talking about,
which is i think just rendering updates.
at my end it;s working:
if i go into the nest and adjust a filter, say,
then pop back to the main sequence, that portion of the nest now needs rendering.

so it IS working for me.
but i do know that in the past, it hasn't, and io;[ve had to do what you describe.
i suspect there's other factors involved.
but what are they??

cheers,
nick
