<HTML>With FCP 1.25, and Premiere 6, too much RAM allocation chokes my machine: its not at all like PhotoShop. If I move up to a G4 and FCP 2,
what's the ideal allocation? RAM doesn't seem to speed up rendering like
you might expect, and folks often post problems with coincidental allocations like "600 MB or 768 MB" or whatever. Cost is no longer an issue, but is throwing too much RAM at FCP kinda like too much oxygen?</HTML>

<HTML>Your instincts are right about this. In FCP 2 to much ram doesn't seem to affect it like it did in 1.2.5. BUT, there comes a point where too much ram is just too much ram. It is NOT going to speed up rendering. Thats a processor issue. If you FEEL FCP needs more ram and performance is helped from allocating more, then give it more. That simple. But usually you can get by in 2.0 with 180-200.
