In an unexpected announcement, Boris FX announced during IBC that they had agree to purchase the Media 100 assets from Optibase. Support and future development of the Media 100 product line will now rest with Boris FX.
No formal press release is available but this follows closely on the heels of the June purchase of Final Effects Complete and the announcement of an update to that product line at IBC. With a software-only version of Media 100 in late beta, it's almost certain that Boris FX will proceed with that development. However, Boris is a software company so it's unlikely there will be a revival of the 844/X product line.
Overall, it would appear to be a positive move for Media 100 owners given that Optibase seemed to have lost interest in the division. Support from Boris will include many former Media 100 employees who already know the product.
