Tom Meegan, freelance editor, hired to build the in-game bumpers for the American League Championship Series and the World Series for FOX Sports, was searching for a way to enhance his video images.
?The HD images the FOX camera people and video technicians create start off looking terrific. I was searching for a way to enhance these fine images to visually convey the emotions of the game, and Nattress Film Effects were the answer. They provide a rich and textured look, that has helped make our production people very happy with the work.? said Tom Meegan.
Before starting on the project, Tom asked Graeme Nattress, the creator of Nattress Film Effects if there were any parameters to tweak to cut down on render times. Not only did Graeme give Tom the parameters he needed, but he also wrote a special preset for Tom that provided his specialized look with large savings in render time.
To add a more organic effect to the bumpers, Tom asked if Nattress Film Effects would be able to convert the 720p60 being shot by FOX into 720p24. Although the current version could not, Graeme programmed a special version that could convert 720p60 to 720p24, and 720p60 to 720p12.This allowed Tom to blend and composite different frame rates on different layers to create the pulsing glow effect he wanted. These additions to Nattress Film Effects will be released as part of the next upgrade in 2006.

Film Effects is equally at home making PAL, NTSC, HD or HDV take on the characteristic look of film, working as a plugin directly inside Apple?s Final Cut Pro.
