(LOS ANGELES, California?January 27) Silverlake indie post boutique Solventdreams, created several sets of visual effects shots for 2011 Sundance pick, The Details. Directed by Jacob Aaron Estes, the film was a major catch of the festival, snapped up by The Weinstein Company for $20 million. The dark comedy billed by some as "a complex, immensely entertaining dramady," sets the stage for ex-Spiderman icon Toby Macquire to fight an infestation of raccoons. Elizabeth Banks, Laura Linney, Ray Liotta and Denis Haysbert are part of the ensemble cast.
Director Estes and Visual Effects Supervisor Jamison Goei hired Solventdreams to do fixes on Macquire's face for a black eye from a previous scene now cut. David Davidson, VFX Supervisor for Solventdreams, worked with digital artists around the clock for weeks to make the deadline.
Solventdreams was fortunate to have the advantage of two tightly calibrated DLP projectors. "Skin contains enormous amounts of fine detail, very difficult to replicate in straight compositing. A large projection screen is a real test of fixing something as important as details around eyes. For a well known talent like Toby Macguire, we knew all eyes would be on his eyes. What he saw in our color theaters are extremely close to what he saw in the DI. Jacob lives nearby, so he could pop in to check progress in our theater." says VFX Supervisor Davidson.
In other news, Solventdreams recently completed a series of visual effects shots with Post Supervisor Beau Genot on another Weinstein Company pick, Abe Sylvia's 80's geek comedy, "Dirty Girl."
