FCP51 -- VOBs silenced by import?

Hi folks,

I am quite new to FCP. I am trying to combine the contents of three DVDs onto one disk. And add chapter markers, etc., so that users can select particular chapters.

Trouble is that whenever I import the files, I get no audio.

The VOB files play just fine on their own. But when they come into FCP, or when I export them to Quicktime out of FCP, what I get is silent. Yes, I have rendered them for both video and audio.

When I import them, I don't see an audio track, but I was guessing it was somehow implicit in the VOB.

Any and all tips most welcome.

Firstly Burro, I trust you have permission to use the footage on said DVD's. If they are bought DVD's chances are good that there is copyright attached. You need software called MPEG Streamclip. When clips are burnt onto DVD, the software 'Muxes' the video|audio into 1 file. That explains why you cant see it in FCP. Streamclip will 'de-mux' the video|audio into 2 separate files so that you can work with them. It is possible to export Quicktime movies as well..

Have fun..
